- solar panels to offset part of the heating and hot water loads
- natural ventilation to provide free cooling
The sustainable features will be used to reduce the environmental impact of the new school. The Biomass boiler will be supplied with wood chips sourced locally, and will provide the bulk of the heating and hot water requirements. Solar panels will be integral with the biomass boiler to provide a pre-heat load to reduce the boiler load. Natural ventilation will be provided with night time cooling to provide free cooling to all areas. This will help reduce temperatures during the summer. A rainwater harvesting system is being provided with an education pack, so that the school can display how much rain water is being used and stored. The rainwater will be used to supply all toilets and urinals to help minimise the water usage of the new school.
