Monday 23rd February 2009
Tomorrow is Shrove Tuesday and we would like to mark this point in the year to start another school tradition! We are asking the children to bring a pancake and a pan to school tomorrow and also to invite parents who are able to, to join us for some pancake racing fun. We will be having some inter-house, year group, pancake flipping races along the length of the school playground tomorrow morning starting just after 09:00. If you would like to join us after you have dropped off your child/children please congregate on the rectangular playground adjacent to the school playing field. If we have enough willing parents we may also see if we can persuade Mums and Dads into some races and we may even have a staff race! So pans to the ready, we do hope that you will be able to come and join in the fun!
The disruption caused by the winter weather forced us to again postpone the initial meeting of the Environment Club… but we are determined not be thwarted! We will be holding the meeting on Wednesday 11th March in the school hall from 15:30 to around 16:00. The purpose of the meeting is to bring together interested parents, family members, children and staff to discuss how we can work together to really make our school grounds a wonderful place to learn and play. We would like to create several groups who would meet regularly to work together to create wonderful environmental projects in and around the school. So if you have an interest or expertise in any of the following areas please come along and lend your support: wildlife habitats; growing fruit and vegetables; creating living sculptures, herb and sensory gardens; recycling/composting, playground games & fixed sports equipment/markings and Eco-schools.
The second parents’ consultation evenings this year will take place on Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd April 2009. This is a change to the dates given in the last newsletter which were incorrect. At these meetings parents will be given ‘mini’ reports relating current pupil progress and attainment. More information about these ‘mini’ reports will be coming home from school over the coming weeks.
The Friends of the school will be holding a book fair this coming Saturday 28th February from 10:00 to 16:00 here at school. All donations of books (in good condition please) are most welcome and can be brought into school throughout the week. We do hope that you will be able to pop into school to visit the fair on Saturday and to support the work of the Friends.
I would like to remind all of the parents of our current Year 5 and 6 children of the special information evening being held later this week. Parents and children are invited to a two part information evening here at school starting at 19:00 on Wednesday 25th February. During the first 30 minutes we will share with you details regarding the end of key stage tests that the Year 6 children undertake each May – you will be able to view past papers and learn how best to support you child through the tests . This will be followed at around 19:35 by a second meeting where information relating to both residential visits (May for our current Y6 and September for our current Y5) will be shared. This second meeting should finish by 20:30 – both meetings are important and I would urge parents to attend (those not undertaking the residential visits are most welcome to depart at the end of the first part of the meeting).
All clubs start again this week with the exception of football club which will start again next Monday.
Unfortunately Forest School has been cancelled this week due to staff illness.
